Peter Dudley’s round-up of the latest matches from the Shepherd Neame Essex Cricket League Premier Division

Chelmsford (184/8) (50 overs) lost to Brentwood (187/7) (49.3 overs) by three wickets

Hosts Chelmsford won the toss and had a bat and apart from James Clifford’s 52 no other batsmen really got going and helped by Charlie Griffiths 4-19 the hosts could only muster 184 in their allotted overs. Brentwood lost two early wickets but Will Buttleman hit 50 to steady the ship and at 130/4 looked like easy winners, however, three wickets put a dent in their chase however they managed to get home with three balls to spare and inflict Chelmsford’s first defeat of the season.

Colchester and East Essex (326/8) (50 overs) beat Upminster (214) (39.2 overs) by 112 runs

Visitors Upminster chose to field after winning the toss but were then put to the sword by Jack Hebron’s brilliant 143 off just 127 balls and along with Jake Foley’s 80 off 69 balls helped their side post 326. In reply, the host’s bowlers shared the wickets around as they reduced Upminster to 136/8 and despite Will Chuter’s 43 balls 51 they were eventually bowled out for 214 and handed a fairly hefty defeat in the battle of the bottom two.

Hornchurch (161/4) (33.4 overs) beat Southend-on-Sea & EMT (160) (46.3 overs) by six wickets

Visitors Southend chose to bat after winning the toss but apart from Joe Robbins 50 they disappointed and were bowled out for just 160 with Mehad Khan taking 4-40. The hosts then knocked off the required runs with more than 16 overs to spare with Billy Gordon top scoring with 45 not out.

Shenfield (236/9) (50 overs) lost to Chingford (240/4) (41.5 overs) by six wickets

Hosts Shenfield won the toss and chose to bat and helped by Haris Mahmood’s 77 thought they had posted a competitive 236. Liam Lannen was the star bowler for the visitors taking 6-52 and in reply, Chingford made light work of their target, with the foundations laid by openers Alfie Taylor and Ben MacGregor who put on 104 for the opening wicket. And with Alexander Maskell smashing 73 from just 39 deliveries Chingford raced to their target with just over eight overs to spare.

Wanstead & Snaresbrook (247/5) (42.2 overs) beat Ilford (245/8) (50 overs) by five wickets

Visitors Ilford won the toss and elected to have a bat and helped with fifties from Saf Imtiaz (55) and Syed Ashar Ahmed Zaidi (65) posted a competitive 245. However, Feroze Khushi hit 86 in reply as the hosts made light work of their target, reaching it with 7.4 overs to spare.
